Look for the Spectra Connect touchscreen and a CT-340C system code. Catalina 300, 340Z MPC and 340R Remote Manual have different controls. A replacement module may be newer than the boat.

Standard or compact?

Standard uses one long membrane. The compact “S” arrangement uses two short membranes. A modular system described as compact in general sales copy is not enough to identify the membrane arrangement.

Read the pump label

The documented Clark Pump is 10%. Confirm its ratio after a retrofit. The membrane, feed motor, booster pump and Clark Pump are distinct components with different replacement choices.

Compact: two short membranes

Replacing both original elements takes two kits. Each kit supplies one membrane with seals. Spectra also uses 21-inch wording for the short kit; identify it by KIT-MB-20F and the installed short vessels.

These are nominal cartridge dimensions, not a measurement of every end cap. Match the SKU and sealing ends as well as length and diameter. Carbon belongs in the freshwater flush circuit; it is not a substitute for the seawater prefilter.

Does mine need a 20-micron filter or a different housing seal?

The Catalina fact sheet and feed-module drawing identify a 5-micron prefilter. The general maintenance text also discusses a 20/5-micron sequence. Add a 20-micron element only for an installed additional stage; do not substitute it for the specified 5-micron element. A high-pressure housing uses a different seal from the three-piece low-pressure housing above.

The manual’s spares table and module drawings disagree on some housing seals and strainer sizes. The affected links are explained in hardware checks and Spectra confirmation.

FOLLOW THE WATER

Find the module you are servicing

Seawater passes through the strainer and booster pumps, then the prefilter and feed pump. The Clark Pump pressurizes the membrane circuit. Sensors and the diversion valve monitor product water before it goes to the tank. The separate carbon-filter circuit supplies freshwater flushing.

Sea strainer & boost pumps

The current drawing shows a pair of booster pumps around a 6-inch strainer. Earlier assemblies may have one pump. Count yours before ordering a full module.

Freshwater flush & carbon filter

Freshwater from the vessel passes through the carbon stage to protect the membrane from chlorine. Z-Ion adds preservation equipment at this module; the drawing still includes the carbon cartridge.

Product-water sensors & diversion

The salinity probe measures water quality; the flow sensor measures production. The diversion valve determines the water path. These parts perform different jobs.

Choose the upgrade for the installed hardware

Automated Z-Ion

ZION-AUTO is the automated option for Connect. It changes preservation equipment, not membrane size. The documented flush module keeps a carbon cartridge.

For 48V, confirm the approved accessory supply and exact package with Spectra before ordering. Do not connect a 12/24V accessory directly to 48V.

CARE & ONBOARD SPARES

Keep the system ready to run

Filters & flushing

Use the prefilter-condition display and the actual water conditions to decide when to change the seawater element. Replace dirty elements; do not plan on washing them back into service.

Replace the carbon flush cartridge at least every six months. Check the seawater strainer for debris and match its screen and gasket to the installed body.

Storage & recommissioning

SC-1 is a storage preservative, not a membrane cleaner or freeze protector. Follow the procedure for the installed Z-Ion or chemical-preservation arrangement.

After chemical storage—or if storage history is unknown—follow the commissioning and purge instructions before sending product water to the tank.

Diagnose before replacing

Low output can involve supply voltage, feed flow, filters or pump condition. The manual calls for performance checks before membrane cleaning.

SC-2 and SC-3 target different fouling. Use the manufacturer’s diagnosis and cleaning sequence rather than treating chemicals as routine maintenance.

What should I carry for a longer trip?

Start with the manual’s cruising-duration list. Cruise Kit A, a replacement PL-PMP-140MAG head, storage supplies and strainer/housing seals address different needs. For longer trips, review the offshore kit alongside the parts already onboard. Match every seal to the installed housing and check kit contents before doubling up.

ANSWERS FOR CATALINA OWNERS

Common buying questions

What size filters does a Catalina 340 Connect use?

The documented seawater prefilter is FT-FTC-5, 5 micron, nominally 10 inches long × 2.5 inches diameter. The freshwater flush cartridge is FT-FTC-CC, a carbon block of the same nominal size. They serve different circuits and are not interchangeable.

Does the compact Catalina use a 40-inch membrane?

The original compact arrangement uses two 2.5 × 20-inch elements. Two KIT-MB-20F kits replace both elements. The original standard arrangement uses one 2.5 × 40-inch element, replaced by one KIT-MB-40F. Check installed vessels after any modification.

Why does the 48V system list a 24V motor?

The current Catalina manual specifies EL-MTR-1/6D24 for both 24V and 48V systems, with a 48V-to-24V converter in the 48V arrangement. The voltage of the boat’s supply does not establish the required voltage of each component.

Is the Clark Pump the same as a Ventura 150 Deluxe pump?

The documented Catalina 340 Connect uses a 10% Clark Pump. The Ventura 150 Deluxe uses a 7% arrangement. The ratio-specific center block, piston rod and rod seals differ; shared-looking external parts do not make the complete pumps interchangeable.

Do I need the 5-inch or 6-inch strainer parts?

The current Catalina module drawing shows a 6-inch strainer and also identifies a newer plastic version separately. The spares table still lists some 5-inch parts. Identify the installed body, screen and gasket; use the confirmation links if those records do not match your hardware.

Can I order an upgrade just because it appears here?

Read its conditions first. Documented parts include configuration and revision requirements. Links marked “Confirm with Spectra before ordering” are possible applications or unresolved hardware choices, not verified fitment.

Can the 3D explorer identify every Catalina part?

The 3D reconstruction covers four service groups of the 10% Clark Pump. The other Catalina modules use manufacturer identification drawings. Fine geometry is approximate; unknown CAD pieces and unresolved fitting revisions are not given verified shopping links.
