Identify one feed pump with a heat sink, original mechanical gauges, the final sediment filter and optional legacy salinity controls. Match the equipment actually installed before choosing replacements.
Check the labels, control box and filter arrangement.
THE ORIGINAL SYSTEM AND CHANGED EQUIPMENT
Identify your Classic installation
Original single feed circuit
The 2002 manual lists one feed pump with a heat sink, one accumulator and one membrane housing. The cooling fan and extra 20-micron housing are original options. A dual-pump upgrade is not assumed from later systems.
Original controls include a mechanical pressure gauge and vertical product-flow meter. Optional automatic salinity equipment adds a one-wire sensor, diversion valve, power-control box and remote switches/lamps. A small digital salinity readout can also be legacy hardware; neither it nor a remote panel proves MPC.
Record model/serial, 12V or 24V pump/fan labels, controller type, Clark Pump ratio, filter bowls, membrane labels and any added flush/Z-Ion equipment. The current parts map supplies identification references; the Classic model name does not certify every modern revision.
Original seawater path: fine-mesh strainer → intake service valve → feed pump(s) / accumulator → final 5-micron sediment filter → Clark Pump / membrane. With the optional extra housing, the feed pumps supply 20 micron → 5 micron. The carbon element belongs to the separate freshwater-flush path.
Separate domestic-water flush path upstream of feed pump(s); chlorine protection.
Gauge placement changes diagnosis
The original description, installation step and page 41 drawing place the pressure-gauge tee before the sediment filter. Clogging can raise that feed-pressure reading. Page 30 placement prose conflicts with those references: inspect the actual tee before interpreting pressure or changing plumbing. Newer after-filter diagnosis is not automatically applicable.
Black high-pressure 10H uses 10H seal and 10H wrench family. Small three-piece housing uses 3PCS10 seal and three-piece wrench. These are conditional modern families; the original picture does not identify a code. Compare seal section, pressure rating and engagement before ordering.
Carbon is a separate service check
Optional manual or timed flush uses domestic water through carbon before the feed circuit. Chlorine damages membranes. Identify the actual carbon element, housing, domestic-water pressure and valve routing; a sediment filter or Z-Ion does not remove chlorine.
Current 12V pump-and-heat-sink kit and 24V kit exclude the cooling fan. Bare EL-FP-12V/24V listings, pump heads, diaphragm drives and heat sinks have separate scopes. Match actual ports, revision, switch and complete supplied contents with Spectra.
The 200c is not explicitly named by the current pump-page compatibility list, so its replacement needs model-specific confirmation.
Original feed cutout is 125 PSI. Diagnose air, filters, voltage drop, leaks and cycling before changing parts. Confirm actual pump/fan voltage and original circuit arrangement; newer pressure-switch adjustment recipes are not automatically suitable. Wiring, protection and replacement switch settings require the installed diagram and Spectra confirmation.
The original manual carbon kit is operated through a service valve. The original automatic option adds timed solenoid/check-valve control and one feed pump. This is not proof of MPC five-day Auto Store. Confirm actual flush controls, timing, chlorine protection, power and available domestic water before relying on storage behavior.
The original manual describes 10-to-1 force multiplication. That description does not verify a pump that has been replaced. Select a confirmed 10% pump to show its center block, single 7/8-inch rod and rod seals. A confirmed changed 7% pump uses a single 3/4-inch rod and different block/seals. No 15%, 20% or Pearson family is included.
The May 2024 rebuild manual describes improvements to older pumps. Shared exploded maps include different ratio and reversing-valve designs. A current component number does not prove direct replacement for every original Classic assembly; retain the actual part, photos, measurements and serial for factory review.
2.5 × 40-inch seawater membrane kit includes a membrane and replacement seals. Show it only after confirming the actual element. The complete housing’s 43.5-inch length does not establish element size. One kit is not a complete vessel or automatic system order quantity.
The original vessel uses black end caps and threaded aluminum retaining rings. Each cap has three O-rings, with a vent between the two center seals; keep both seals and the vent clear. Current end-plug kit and retaining-ring candidate require actual cap, port, seal and revision confirmation. A new cap code is not automatic interchangeability.
Original product tubing is 1/4-inch outside diameter. Do not block it or connect it to the bottom of a tank/manifold that creates backpressure. The original product service valve is engineered to avoid blocking flow at its middle position. Rejected product joins brine downstream of the brine service valve and must remain unobstructed.
Identify the actual controller before choosing a probe. The original remote panel and legacy digital readout do not establish MPC-3000 or MPC-5000. The generic MPC-3000 conversion instructions do not explicitly list Classic 200C as eligible.
Original mechanical / analog controls
No automatic salinity sensor is established. Test product using a calibrated independent salinity meter and use the original service-valve routing.
Original automatic salinity controller
One-wire probe, salinity board, diversion valve and remote lamps are a legacy system. Page 56 distinguishes internal-knob serials 2000–5541 from digital-readout serials 6000–6999. These are not MPC chip versions; confirm the applicable procedure and calibration solution with Spectra.
MPC-3000 is not an automatic conversion path
Classic 200C is not explicitly named in the upgrade manual’s compatible model list. Obtain a model-specific factory determination; generic KIT-MPC-5KUPG12/24 is not recommended by this guide.
Already installed MPC-5000: B-series / A31
Current listed interface route is A40 board plus SP4. Confirm actual Classic wiring/programming. This is service of identified changed hardware, not approval to convert a Classic.
Already installed MPC-5000: A34 / A35
SP4 needs EL-MPC-SPCBA daughter board, or A40 plus SP4. No exact daughter-board listing is fabricated. Confirm actual interface and availability.
Already installed MPC-5000: A36 / A37 / A39 / A40
SP4 is listed as compatible. Confirm connector, cable reach and controller calibration. Original one-wire legacy sensor is different.
The old cleaning section includes MPC Start/Stop wording despite describing legacy hardware elsewhere. Follow the actual installed controls and approved procedure; that paragraph does not establish a controller conversion. No salinity reading alone proves every aspect of drinking-water quality.
Z-Ion: confirm controls and approved accessory power
Review an analog Legacy installation
The current manufacturer selector includes analog Legacy systems under manual Z-Ion candidate. Confirm an actual analog installation, suitable flush plumbing, trigger and complete package with Spectra. The existing catalog’s narrower Deluxe/Cape Horn condition is retained in the part row; this guide adds a conditional Legacy review, not verified Classic fitment.
A remote legacy panel does not select AUTO
Automated Z-Ion candidate is reserved here for a positively identified, already installed MPC-5000 system with factory-approved interfaces. Legacy automatic salinity controls and MPC-3000 require factory review; no retrofit kit is selected automatically. Identify an approved 12/24V DC accessory supply separately from the feed-pump rating. Never connect Z-Ion directly to AC or 48V.
Choose installed-generator service only after confirming a generator and control box. Combined bowl and rod assembly differs from loose bowl/rod service. Do not automatically add a separate rod or treat a service assembly as a complete retrofit. Follow the actual commissioned Z-Ion instructions for storage; it does not provide chlorine or freeze protection.
Open each drawing for full-size callouts. Original Classic equipment and current shared service references are labeled separately; confirm actual revision before ordering.
Classic 200c original plumbing schematic
Original single feed pump, accumulator and final sediment stage. The optional 20-micron housing is a separate addition.
Names cylinders, center block, reversing valve, test port and pressure-relief valve. Identify actual pump revision before applying modern service codes.
Optional original timed automatic freshwater flush
Domestic water passes through carbon, solenoid and check valve before entering the feed circuit. This legacy timed option does not establish MPC Auto Store.
Identify stainless compression fittings, tube preparation, grab rings and seals. Use the actual pressure-rated tubing; product fittings are a different family.
Internal-knob serial range 2000–5541 and digital-readout range 6000–6999 have different procedures. These are legacy ranges, not MPC version numbers. Have Spectra confirm the applicable service procedure.
USE THE PROCEDURE FOR THE EQUIPMENT ACTUALLY FITTED
Maintenance, storage and cleaning
Strainer, sediment filters and pump cooling
Inspect the fine-mesh strainer, replace loaded sediment elements and record normal pressure/flow/voltage under load. Keep heat sinks and fitted fans clear. The original filter wash/reuse and boat-towing advice is not repeated; choose current replacement/service guidance from Spectra. A before-filter pressure gauge and a changed tee have different diagnostic meaning.
SC-1 is storage chemical; SC-2 is alkaline biological-fouling cleaner; SC-3 is acid mineral-scale cleaner. Page 20 incorrectly calls SC-1 an acid cleaner. Never mix SC-2 and SC-3 or use cleaning compounds for storage. Use nonchlorinated water and the current approved procedure. No unverified numeric dose is supplied.
Original storage instructions use SC-1 and reject sodium bisulfite/metabisulfite because of pump damage. Chemicals circulate only under the prescribed depressurized service procedure. Purge stored chemicals and keep product out of the tank as directed before pressurizing and validating water. SC-1 and Z-Ion do not prevent freezing; obtain the current winterizing procedure for the fitted installation.
Check voltage under load, air, filters, leaks, pump operation and baseline readings before deciding the membrane needs cleaning. Keep chemical service separate from drinking-water production. The original MPC button wording is not a control-identification shortcut; use the actual installed system’s controls.
Current Cruise Kit A explicitly supports older 200C/380C systems and contains six final 5-micron elements, one carbon element and two SC-1 bags. Those are spare-stock counts. Optional 20-micron housing needs separate 20-micron spares; changed housings require their own dimensions and seal checks.
No. This guide covers Spectra 200/380C, the manufacturer’s 1998–2003 generation. Identify the actual model before using a modern Ventura guide.
Does the original system always have a 20/5 pair?
No. One final 5-micron sediment filter is standard. A second 20-micron housing is optional and comes before the final 5-micron element, after the feed pump(s).
Does a remote switch panel mean MPC controls?
No. The original salinity controller uses remote switches and lamps, with an optional legacy digital readout. Identify the actual box and board.
Can I order a conversion kit for Classic 380c?
The generic MPC-3000 conversion manual explicitly excludes 380C. Contact Spectra for a model-specific service determination; this guide recommends no generic conversion.
Does the current Shurflo kit include a cooling fan?
No. Current pump-and-heat-sink kits exclude the fan. Verify actual voltage, revision and supplied contents; 380c has two original feed pumps and fans.
Can I choose Clark internals from the model name?
Read the actual pump ratio and revision first. Center block, rod and rod seals differ between a confirmed 10% pump and a changed 7% pump.
